a Buck Well Spent - Springs Mills, Inc.
|
SOLD 12/20/07. A Buck Well Spent - The best-remembered Springs Mills, Inc. ad featuring an American Indian brave lying exhausted in a hammock made of a sheet, with an Indian woman apparently rising from the same hammock. (23.5 cm x 31 cm). PLEASE MAKE AN OFFER. CONDITION: GREAT, EXCEPT FOR VERY MINOR WRINKLING (won't show if framed) AND A TINY 4mm TEAR AT THE VERY BOTTOM IN THE WHITE SPACE. PLEASE NOTE: My scanner wasn't large enough to get the entire picture. A few cm on each side are not captured in the posted photo. HISTORY: The caption read "A buck well spent on a Springmaid sheet." The double-entendre advertising campaign for Springs Cotton Mills proved one of the most successful efforts during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, increasing brand awareness and, subsequently, sales. In fact, surveys showed the ads resulted in far greater brand recall than any other campaign from 1947 to 1951. By the late 1950’s the company had become one of the largest makers of sheets.
